CMT Awards

Hi Y’all.

Did you catch the CMT Awards last week? If you did, what did you think? If you didn’t, you can probably watch each performance on YouTube. Or catch it on CMT as a rerun.

Here’s my two cents……

Why the hell is the CMT awards being opened by Lenny Kravitz? If Jason Aldean was going to sing along, why didn’t HE open? And why was he doing the solo guitar, when Keith Urban was there? Oh geez.

Jason Aldean in therapy. Haha. That was HILARIOUS!!!! Good job, writers.

Breakthrough Video of the Year

I wanted: How Country Feels (Randy Houser)

Winner: Cruise (Florida Georgia Line)

Video of the Year

I wanted: Blown Away (Carrie Underwood)

Winner:

Miranda Lambert’s performance of Mama’s Broken Heart – Really? Is this woman serious? It sounded like a bad karaoke version of this song. I’m disappointed.

Kacey Musgraves’ performance of Blowing Smoke – First off, let me just point out how beautiful she is. I hear her on the radio all the time, but haven’t ever seen her. Wow. And in my opinion, she totally outdid Miranda.

And can you tell me why the bounty hunter guy is there? What part of him says country music? <sigh>

CMT Performance of the Year

I wanted: Homeboy (Eric Church)

Winner: (Over You) Miranda Lambert

Darius Rucker’s performance of Wagon Wheel – I just love him. I love his ability to just have a ball anywhere he is. I don’t dislike him in Country Music as much as I thought I would. I don’t know that Lady A’s appearance was necessary, but they were great, as usual.

Hunter Hayes’ performance of Crazy – He’s so freakin’ cute. I’ve loved all his song thus far, so of course, this one isn’t any different. I love the way he plays to the audience. Such a people person. And he kinda reminds me of Ricky Stenhouse Jr.  ;-)

Luke Bryan’s performance of Crash My Party – For a ‘booty call’ song, it’s typical. I don’t really have a lot to say about this performance. I guess the only thing that was weird, was the strange hand movements he kept making.

Taylor Swift’s performance of Red – I think this is the first time I’ve ever said this, and probably the ONLY time I’ll ever say it. In this performance, she looked SMOKIN’ HOT! Reminded me a little of Shania Twain.

Best Collaborative Video of the Year

I wanted: The Only Way I Know (Jason Aldean/Luke Bryan/Eric Church)

Winner: The Only Way I Know (Jason Aldean/Luke Bryan/Eric Church)

Keith Urban’s performance of Little Bit of Everything – Love this song, and love him. His guitar playing abilities are amazing. I could listen to him sing and play for hours He is simply, incredible.

Duo Video of the Year

I wanted: Runnin’ Out of Air (Love and Theft)

Winner: Cruise (Florida George Line)

Lady Antebellum’s performance of Goodbye Town – I don’t really get this song. I’ve heard it a handful of times, but it hasn’t grown on me. They’re good no matter what. I don’t have any complaints about them. Charles is amazing.

Female Video of the Year

I wanted: Begin Again (Taylor Swift)

Winner: Mama’s Broken Heart (Miranda Lambert)

Little Big Town’s performance of The Chain – These four have such an amazing sound when they sing together. They can do no wrong. Even on a rock song I’ve never heard. I saw them open for Kenny Chesney a few years ago, and their sound is just bone chilling. So beautiful.

Group Video of the Year

I wanted: Pontoon (Little Big Town)

Winner: Downtown (Landy Antebellum)

Jason Aldean’s performance of Night Train was great. I love that song, and I’m soooo happy he’s chosen that song to be his next single. He’s coming to SoCal in October. Guess who’s going? Yep – me and RM#1. Can’t wait.

Male Video of the Year

I wanted: Come Over (Kenny Chesney)

Winner: Sure Be Cool If You Did (Blake Shelton)

Carrie Underwood’s performance of See You Again sucked. Everyone knows I don’t like her live performances, and this time was no exception. I just can’t say something anything about this….

Video of the Year

I wanted: Blown Away (Carrie Underwood)

Winner: Blown Away (Carrie Underwood)

I love Kenny Rogers. No matter how old he gets. Just sayin’.

Florida Georgia Line’s performance of Cruise (featuring Nelly) was just like you would expect. Can we now move on from this Cruise song, please?
